The pitch-black comedy about desperation, anxiety, and self-delusion is not afraid to be deeply weird.

On Becoming A God's sense of humor is sharp and peculiar, easily cutting through the plot's bleaker moments without actually distracting from them.

A clever, compelling, and thorough evisceration of American capitalism...

Going broader and broader in this case doesn't feel like a natural progression; it honestly feels like an expansion of an idea that's more like a movie in order to make it into a series.

Loopy, winding, and heavily atmospheric, this tropical noir finds just the right balance between social critique and Lynchian dreaminess.

[Kirsten] Dunst is the saving grace throughout a rollicking Season One that keeps delivering whenever she's on screen. It may well turn out to be the TV performance of the year.

At its best when it focuses on that space of uncertainty, tracing the muddy path between pain and tenderness and the footsteps of those who walk it.

Ted Levine...is the pyramid schemer, NYPD Blue's Sharon Lawrence is his wife, and Mary Steenburgen is a snooty rich woman.

The dark comedy of the Kirsten Dunst-led On Becoming a God in Central Florida works so well because it takes no reservations in presenting a fully saturated, unapologetic dive into absurdism.

[It] keeps excitingly close to the fire, despite being a period piece. But most of the cultural commentary evaporates over the course of the season, as FAM becomes an otherworldly rabbit hole for the show's surreal digressions and unlikely plot twists.

Dunst pours her heart into [the role], turning Krystal into a sparkling, striving hustler.

Thought this could turn into something good in the first few episodes, then it just got cheesy and weird. Not many characters to root for.

Loved Alexander Skarsg?rd but thought Dunst a bit tired.

Smart, funny and very very strange. Kristen Dunst's best performance to date.
  • Sep 28, 2019
Frighteningly funny satire filled with surprising twists and a terrific cast.

Takes an episode to get into this but it's funny and different. Kristen Dunst is terrific.

Enjoyable dark comedy. Great snapshot of MLMs and how they work. Terrific performances by all involved. I'm very interested in seeing how the whole season plays out, but I feel like if there isn't a payoff of some kind...it'll be disappointing. It's headed in an uncertain direction after a few episodes so they've got options and that makes it fun to try to see what the endgame might be...

Great. The first few episodes are an emotional roller coaster ride for Krystal. Seeing her struggle so much justs makes me anxious to see her climb to the top. I cant wait to see the rest of the season!!

Kirsten Dundst shines (albeit with quite a bit of tarnish) as the main character in what should be a dumb show with a dumb premise. But her star is powerful enough to carry the entire show. I've only seen three episodes but find all the acting to be top notch. Thoroughly enjoying so far.
